NOW FOR THE BEHIND-THE-SCENES IMAGES OF THE ACTUAL LOCATION:
Last week, I went around Little Saigon to look for a tiny Vietnamese ao dai for my 2-month old daughter, London. With some luck, I found a store in the Vietnamese area in South Sacramento carrying them. The smallest size they had was for a 1 year old but it didn’t matter. I was so happy just to find something. Even though there were only 2 stores selling lunar new year (Tet) gifts and souvenirs, it felt so festive. It reminded me of Tet in Vietnam when Henry and I went 2 years ago. The outside of the store was lined with red paper lanterns and all sorts of colorful flowers. I thought, wouldn’t it be cool to do a photoshoot and MAKE IT SEEMS AS THOUGH WE WERE SHOPPING AMONG THE STREETS OF VIETNAM?
So this past weekend, I came back to do more shopping and did a photoshoot with ThuyDuong and Nhi, to try to manipulate this little area to look like we were really out and about shopping for the Lunar New Year in Vietnam. Here are some behind the scene shots:
London out shopping for her ao dai.
We actually took the photos in front of a floral shop and a hair accessories store in the SF Supermarket shopping center at the corner of 65th and Stockton Blvd in South Sacramento. When I arrived, there were so many people wandering around that I felt super intimidated. I thought we would get yelled at or kicked out but no!
Here’s me trying to be creative and using the plastic box and figurine to create a natural filter for the shot below:
