Two weeks ago, I got to photograph Angelica and Marco’s wedding in Downtown Sacramento and it was nothing short of a fairy tale. Marco is tall and handsome while Angelica is beautiful, kind and has the biggest heart. Since Angelica is a teacher, it is only appropriate that the theme resolves around books: classic literature books for her and comic books for him.
Here’s how their day unfolded:
Since Marco didn’t want to see Angelica until she walks down the aisle, they booked 2 separate rooms at the Citizen Hotel and got ready there. Since the guy want to go with the superhero theme, it is only appropriate that their boutonnieres looked like this, right? #mostcreativeideaever
Before the ceremony begins though, let’s take a selfie!
Meanwhile, the ladies got their own suite at the Citizen Hotel and are busy dolling up themselves.
Once hair and make up are done, both Angelica’s mom and mother-in-law helped her put on her wedding dress.
After the dress is on, Maggie, Angelica’s hair stylist, helped her put on her veil.
(10 months ago when Angelica and Marco booked me for their wedding, Angelica was thinking of not wearing a veil at all. However, I suggested that she should since it’ll help complete the look. I had scoped out some locations and I think a long cathedral veil flying in the wind would make for some really cool shots. Little did I know, for her wedding day, Angelica’s mother and mother-on-law joined forces and made her a custom cathedral veil full of beautiful details.)
And of course, all of my bride has to have a gorgeous leg & shoe shot. After all, she did spend a lot of money on those gorgeous heels and pedicure. <3
Once the bride is all done, we are off to the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament for the wedding ceremony.
It was a gorgeous day for a wedding.
I love how big she smiled when she saw Marco.
If you zoomed in on the picture below, you can actually see a drop of tear on Angelica’s hand.
If it was tear though, it was a tear of joy because our bride was all smiles that day.
Look how big her smile was right after it was pronounced that they are man and wife. So here comes the first kiss:
Right after the ceremony, we took family photos while everyone was still around.
Once we’re outside, it’s time for some fun formal portraits. The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament has the most beautiful steel doors which made an awesome backdrop for some photos right outside of church.
Since we’re already in Downtown, we walked from K Street to the Capital and along the way, these are the photos that we got. Before the wedding, I scoped out some locations that I thought are really pretty and send those suggestions to the couple. They were open to trying anything so that’s exactly what we did.
These were taken at the Leland Mansion. Since another group was there taking photos too, we used what we can and made the best out of it. I’m in love with the architectural details here.
Don’t know why but I just love the way she laughed here.
This is still at the same location, except it’s right around the corner from where we were at. It’s amazing how you can turn and literally get a totally different setting. This is why I love Sacramento so much. The city is so diverse and it has so many beautiful outdoor space.
We couldn’t go without a funny jumping picture. Look at Ozzy!
These guys make up the best bridal party ever! There was nothing but jokes and laughter the whole time. They were super comfortable with me and I was super comfortable with them. They were also very good actors too. Normally this is where I’d have them do the “walking and laughing” shot but since the space was so limited, I asked them to stand in one place, lock hands, look at each other and pretend to laugh as though they were having a really good time. TWO tries and we were done! BAM!!!! #bestgroupever
Henry, my husband and second shooter, took these pictures of the guys and I am really jealous because they are so freaken awesome! I asked him if he came up with these ideas or did the guys came up with them? He said the guys did but since he read and watched so many Marvel comic books and movie, the poses came out naturally.
NOW ONTO THE RECEPTION AT TSAKOPOULOS LIBRARY GALLERY IN DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO:Each table has a stack of books as the centerpiece. Each book is different from the other because the bride has been collecting them for a year in preparation for this day. She even got an old school typewriter for the main sign in table.
After dinner, Angelica sang a song to her husband:
After that, her sister and her nephew dedicated a song to the newly wed called, “Por Amor” which means, “For Love”. It’s a really sweet song that talks about all the things that we are willing to do for love. And they really rocked it because look at the way it made Angelica feel.
After the toast from the 2 best men and the maid of honor is the Father & Daughter Dance.
Then it’s the Mother & Son Dance. It was really sweet how they just held onto each other.
Of course no wedding is complete without the First Dance from the newlywed.
Look at the pretty little cake filled with fresh flowers. It was soo adorable and gorgeous! I loved how they decorated the table with these vintage items and dolly.
Marco’s Dad got in line to dance with his daughter-in-law:
As a Mexican tradition, all the single ladies got in line, held hand and ran a couple round around the room before the bride tossed her bouquet.
Yup! That’s a granny panty that he just pulled out.
Marco got some tricks up his sleeve to make the garter toss a bit more interesting too.
As for the single men, they held hand and ran around the room slowly at first then it’s faster and faster until someone fell out of the ring. Only until then can the groom toss the garter.
If you made it to the end, congratulations and thank you!!! This is probably the longest blog up to date. I tried really hard to keep it shorter but there was so many important details that I couldn’t cut anymore out. I hope you enjoyed it thoroughly. It was alot of work but Henry and I enjoyed every moment of it.
To Marco and Angelica, congratulations on your marriage. We are so, so, so happy for you. Thank you for believing in and trusting us to capture your big day. We wish you nothing but sunshine and happiness for the years to come. Cheers to a perfect beginning!
