Shannen + Alfred | Granite Bay Golf Club Wedding | Sneak Peek

This past Saturday, Henry and I had the honor to documenting Shannen and Alfred’s big wedding day at Granite Bay Golf Club. I can’t wait to go through the whole gallery but here’s a sneak peek for now:

Isn’t the bride a vision? Check out that beautiful wedding dress. I can’t over all of the whimsical lace flowers floating off of it!!!

The day started with the bridal party getting ready at Staybridge Hotel in Folsom that is 20 minutes from Granite Bay Golf Club. Since we were allowed access to the venue 2 hours before the ceremony time, I arrived at 3:30 to scope out the ceremony site and the general areas that we are allowed to take photos in while Henry (my husband) finished setting up the flashes and equipments.

In the meantime, the bride and groom and their wedding party got ready in their own separate suite that is right next door to one another. The bridal suite was surprisingly really large and had lots of rich mahagony furnitures. One wall was filled with all sorts of books. It definitely screams “private golf club”.

Shannen’s Mom (in purple) flew in all the way from Taiwan for her daughter’s wedding. She had lived in the States before but after retiring, she moved back to Taiwan.

Next door, the groomsmen were helping Alfred getting ready followed by his mother putting on the final touch to his attire. In the car ride with his and her Mom to the wedding venue, Alfred’s Mom told me that she has 2 sons. Alfred is the younger of the two. Her husband, Henry (who has the same name as my husband), passed away several years ago, but I will meet her oldest son, Chris, later as he is one of the groomsmen.

These photographs that Henry captured of Alfred and his Mom together are so, so sweet! When looking at these images, I can’t help but wonder what was Henry thinking and feeling when he was documenting them? His Mom passed away this past Summer after a really long battle with Alzheimer. At that time, I remember searching frantically for a nice photo of them together that I had taken at the studio several months before. Often nowadays, we have lots of photos that we took of our parents and of ourselves but not as many nice photos taken together. So that’s why whenever possible, I always encourage my bride and groom to have their parents help them get ready so they can have some nice photos to remember them by later.

Then finally! We were ready for the FIRST LOOK!

The groom holding on the bride’s train when they are walking is probably one of my all time favorite capture. It’s so simple, nature and sweet. The best thing about this shot too, other than the simple elegance, is that you can see Shannen’s exquisite hairpiece as well.
Here are our handsome groomsmen.
And the beautiful bridesmaids.

It was 4PM and everywhere was so bright. So we hid under the shade of these tall bushes to do most of the bridal party photos. Aren’t these bridesmaid dresses so elegant? Are you a fan of everyone matching or have the girls choose their own style to match their body type as long as they stay in a particular color scheme?

We also wanted to capture how lush Granite Bay Golf Club is too, after all this rain that we’ve been having. Two weeks leading up to the wedding, Shannen and I had been watching the weather app like a hawk. We were all so thankful for this beautiful sunshiny day!!!!
This bridal party was pretty awesome! It only took us 3 tries to get THE jumping shot. Did you notice that one of the groomsmen was on crutches? He couldn’t walk but he jumped with us! What an awesome sport!!!

THE WEDDING RECEPTION with the bride and groom dancing on the clouds.

The reception ballroom at Granite Bay Golf Club right after the decorating was done. We are ready for the wedding reception!!! The chandeliers floating above add so much elegance to the exposed ceiling/ industrial look.
