Today marks 5 years since Henry and I got married and we are soooooooo happy to announce that we are pregnant. Our bundle of joy is coming on December 17, 2017. Yes, at the end THIS YEAR!!!!! We are over the moon! After a year and a half of trying, it has finally happened for us. AND WE CANNOT BE MORE excited to share this news with you.
For the last 5 years, we have travelled so much, seen so much, so now we are ready to be PARENTS!!! We have so much love to give and we are just so thankful to be able to get this journey started.
WHEN WE FOUND OUT:
It was Sunday, April 16, 2017 around 4:30pm.
We just got home after a 2.5 hr drive from San Jose, after spending 18 days in Asia visiting Japan, Hong Kong and Korea.
When I was Hong Kong, I was super hungry all the time and I can smell the pig intestines boiling all the way down the streets from all of the street vendors. The smell made me feel extra very uncomfortable for some reason. I’ve been taking my temperature for the ovulation app and it has been over 98 degree for over 2 weeks. My friend Mai said that her temperature was over 98 degree for 2 consecutive weeks after she got pregnant so I was suspicious. I missed my period that month but that didn’t mean much since my cycle is super irregular. Since started tracking, my cycle had been 78 days, 32 days, 56 days, 35 days.
While in Asia, especially in Seoul, I was hungry and tired very often. And my sense of smell is spiked when I am hungry so anything that is too strong or stinky will make me want to yak.
So right after we got back from the trip, the first thing we did after picking up Jixer was stopping by Walgreen’s to get a pregnancy test. It was about 4pm when we got home. I thought, “They said it is best to test in the morning when your pee is concentrated. So until then, let me use one of these cheap pregnancy test strip that’s in the ovulation kit. I’ll use the expensive pregnancy test tomorrow.”
Low and behold, that strip came out POSITIVE. I screamed so loud because I had tested so many times before this and every single time, it was always a “NO!”. It was always 1 red line showing across, which is a negative. So I couldn’t believe it. THERE ARE 2 FREAKEN LINES HERE. 2 FREAKEN LINES!!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!
Henry ran in. We hugged each other and we just cried.
Then the funniest thing happened. I dried my tears and said, “Hold on! Hold on! Let me test with the expensive one too, just to make sure since this strip is so cheap.”
It took forever for the result to come out. But finally after what seemed like an eternity, okay, like 3 minutes, it said “PREGNANT”.
Holy shit! I screamed even louder. You see, we’ve been trying for so long. Mentally I am so used to the disappointment, as terrible as it was, that I just couldn’t believe that this is real.
Henry freaked out when he heard me screaming and ran into the bathroom to make sure I am okay. I waved to exposed strip in front of him (uncapped & everything) to show the huge “Pregnant” result. Instantly tears busted out and we cried again.
It was the best thing that has happened to us.
As of today, I am 12 weeks along. Baby is doing well. We went to the Dr during week 10 and results were good. Heartbeat is at 150 beat per minute and our baby is now almost as big as a kiwi, measuring about 2.5 inches long.

Even Jixer is super excited to meet his little sibling. So much that he put up with Mama for over an hour in front of all of these ridiculous things in the garage & the front yard.

THE QUESTIONS THAT ALMOST EVERYONE WILL ASK:
DO YOU HAVE ANY MORNING SICKNESS OR CRAVINGS?
Since this is usually the first thing most people ask, I’ll go ahead and answer it here. I am so lucky to not have any morning sickness or any cravings. I AM JUST HUNGRY ALL THE TIME. And when I am hungry, my sense of smell is spiked so anything stinky will make me want to throw up. I get a little tired toward the middle of the day and wanting to take naps but that’s about it. I gained 13 lbs already so I’m trying to pace myself lately by eating a lot healthier. But honestly, almost every night around 11:45PM, I really want to drive to Carl Jr to get a large order of fries.

ARE YOU SHOWING YET?
I barely have a bump. It is coming though because I can’t fit into any of my jeans anymore. Two weeks ago, Henry caught me sitting on the edge of the bed looking all down. When asked, I told him, “I don’ know what fits anymore” with those puppy dog eyes. hahaha… And for the first time yesterday, I looped a hair tie around the button to hold my pants up at the photoshoot. LMAO #ghettomuch? Oh well! It is so much easier to shoot in jeans than a dress.
WILL THIS AFFECT YOUR WORK?
I hope not. Before I became pregnant, I did a lot of research out of curiosity. When asked in a large group of entrepreneurs, over 30 women responded that they photographed weddings all the way up to week 37 & 38. The good news for me is that the last wedding we have for this year is when I am at week 35. Of course it doesn’t guarantee anything but my goal is to stay active so that I can continue to be able to work and be healthy all the way until the end.
As for portrait session, I will definitely be scaling back on those especially as it gets closer to the due date (Dec 17th). So for Fall and Christmas photos, I will be offering them much sooner and in a limited amount this year to make sure that I don’t overdue it.
Thank you so much for reading, for understanding and supporting us. We cannot wait to be parents!!!! Boy or girl, it doesn’t matter. We just hope for a safe delivery and a happy & healthy baby.
